It’s time for the trustees and volunteers of the LANCE Trust to give themselves a big pat on the back. Although North Somerset isn’t part of the West of England Combined Authority, we were able to enter the prestigious Bee Bold Awards - and were awarded the 'People for Nature' award.
Designed to celebrate the champions of boosting pollinator-friendly schemes across the West, the Trust was one of six groups singled out by an expert panel of judges to be a Pollinator Champion.
The judges recognised our work in inspiring and engaging residents including Northleaze Primary School, the parish council and others to improve wild spaces in Long Ashton. Our work in surveying and monitoring hedges, butterflies and other species that is a vital way of measuring success (or failure) was particularly noted.
The Climate Action Hub
The Awards Ceremony brought together local residents, companies and community groups at the wonderful Climate Action Hub known as Heart of BS13 at Hartcliffe (pictured above). And it was exciting to meet other wildlife champions from across the region and marvel at the creativity on display.
We're officially a charity
Winning the award isn’t the only bit of good news. The Charities Commission has accepted our application so we are now an official charity. That gives us lots more opportunities to raise our profile and apply for grants. So, as always, do get in touch.
