A hedgehog evening with the 2nd Long Ashton Brownies

We were recently told a story about a neighbour who stopped feeding the hedgeogs in his garden due to the amount of noise they were making at night. However, no noise could compare to a room full of excited Brownies on a Wednesday evening in Long Ashton!

After the enthusiastic reception to our swift session, back in April, the Brownies welcomed us - and some of the Long Ashton Hedgehog Group - back to the hut for an evening.

Along with swifts, hedgehogs have been identified as one of a few certain species the Long Ashton Parish Council are going to make a concerted effort to conserve.

The session began with an introduction to hedgehogs and we were delighted to receive so many clever questions, and impressed with how much the Brownies already knew. Particular enthusiasm, of course, was given to what their poo looked like, hedgehog babies (hoglets) and what would happen if they got too fat.

To test their newly expanded hedgehog-knowledge we ran a quiz and this was followed by some hedgehog-themed arts and crafts. Some of the girls transformed pine cones into mini hedgehogs and others created posters full of facts and top tips for protecting and conserving hedgehogs.
